Atlantic Crossing Charity Ride: Mission Accomplished
After months of planning and preparation, the Atlantic Crossing Charity Ride team completed their incredible journey across France last weekend, riding into the port of Antibes on Sunday afternoon — travelling more than 900 kilometres from the Atlantic coast on the West of France, all the way across to the French Riviera, on the Mediterranean.
What began as an ambitious idea to raise funds and awareness for Cancer My Arse became an unforgettable adventure that tested endurance, teamwork, and determination.
Across France from West to East
The riders set off from Biarritz on the Atlantic coast just over 2 weeks ago and made their way east through changing landscapes, from rolling countryside to mountain climbs and quiet rural lanes. Each day brought new challenges — long stretches in the saddle, unpredictable weather, and the physical toll of so many hours on the road.
But with steady support from the crew and encouragement from friends and family following their progress online, the team kept moving forward, kilometre by kilometre, until they finally reached their destination of Port Vauban in Antibes, on the Côte d’Azur.
Teamwork and Purpose
Throughout the ride, the group demonstrated remarkable camaraderie. When one rider struggled, others rallied around. The support crew worked tirelessly behind the scenes — managing logistics, meals, and maintenance — making sure the riders could focus on the road ahead.
John Holding, property expert from the Riviera team of Home Hunts, was one of the riders, and main route planner of the project, reflected on the experience:
916 kms over 6 days was quite an achievement. But what made this event even more special was the overall team effort. From the riders, to the mechanic and the phyios, everybody played their part in bringing our community together for this challenge. There were many highs, and thankfully hardly any lows !
One of the highlights of the trip for me, was riding alongside Matt, who just 3 weeks prior, finished his last round of chemotherapy. The strength and determination that he showed over the 6 days, following almost 2 years of treatment was utterly remarkable. It underlined to me exactly why we do what we do.
His words capture the spirit of the journey — a shared effort driven by purpose and a desire to make a real difference.
Supporting Cancer My Arse
The ride was organised in aid of Cancer My Arse, a charity that funds research and raises awareness for bowel cancer. Donations from the event have already surpassed expectations, and the campaign continues to attract attention and support. If you would like to support this very worthy cause, you can donate here
Every kilometre cycled has helped to spread awareness and contribute to an important cause that touches so many lives.
Moments to Remember
From early morning starts and quiet backroads to the excitement of crossing the finish line together, the riders will no doubt carry lasting memories from this experience. The photos from the journey — of tired smiles, long roads, and moments of triumph — tell the story better than words ever could.
Looking Ahead
While the team has earned some well-deserved rest, there’s already talk of what might come next. The success of this event has shown what can be achieved through teamwork, community spirit, and a shared goal.
A huge congratulations to John and everyone involved — riders, crew, supporters, and sponsors — for making this challenge such an inspiring success.
